"Children are not the people of tomorrow, but the people of today. They have a right to be taken seriously, and to be treated with tenderness and respect. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be--the unknown person inside each of them is our hope for the future". -Janusz Korczak
The counseling program at Upward Elementary seeks to serve all students, parents, and teachers. A child may see the counselor for help with personal, social, or academic concerns. Some examples of these issues are:
* Friendship problems
* Adjusting to new situations
* Learning self-control
* Family Changes
School counselors provide services to all children at various times during the school year. Some children are served in the classroom and others receive more individualized counseling services. Some of the ways counselors work with students:
* Individual and group counseling
* Monthly classroom guidance sessions
* School-wide character education
* Referral to community resources and agencies
* In-class interventions and in-class observations
* Consultation with parents and teachers
